Playa El Valle
In the
peninsula of Samana, several classic excursions exist: the
Waterfall of El Limon, The humpback whales (only during
the winter season), the National Park Lost Haitises, and
Cayo Levantado...These are the offers found in every
brochure or informative guide dedicated to the region.
Nevertheless, if you have time, curiosity,
enthusiasm...There are much more places to visit,
beginning by its paradisiacal beaches.

One of them is El Valley, a
wonderful beach, still uncontaminated and almost desert
that will enthusiasm all those who prefer moving away from
the more frequented places. The excursion is not only very
advisable for the beauty of the beach, but also for its
beautiful journey, very panoramic and a little bit
adventurous.

The dirt track begins near
Santa Barbara de Samana, when the city is left behind
towards Las Galeras, and it is signalized with the classic
Brugal signboard. The track, although is very ample, is
not always in good condition - we recommend a 4WD, a quad
or a cross motorcycle - Its approximately 10 km rise and
go down crossing small rural villages (La Casualidad, La
Cruz...), where all the children will go out to greet you.

It crosses the river San
Juan for two times and offers nice views of the hills and
of the local vegetation, until to coming up to the beach.
In the scanty kiosks installed there, you will be able to
taste a typical Dominican food, normally fresh fish of the
day, cooked on the coal.
The beach is long and a walk
to stretch the legs after the trip is worth. To disc over
, the the left side the mouth of the river San Juan, and
to the right side, behind nice rocks, to swim in the small
natural fresh water swimming pool that is formed by the
filtration of the rocks.
If you decide to do this
excursion, when you take the return road towards Santa
Barbara de Samana, do not miss the Lulu waterfall, named
like this by the villagers. Instead of going to the right
side the same way you took for coming, follow straightly
until the end of the village, where you will be able to
park your vehicle. In a brief walk of only 6 or 7 minutes,
by a way bordering the river, over flowing with
plantations of banana trees, coffee, spectacular
bamboos...you will arrive to the waterfall. The site, an
almost unknown spot, is really beautiful, and in the
holidays, the children of the village usually animate it.

A comforting swim in the
waterfall to take off the salt of the body is a delight
before starting the return.
